The dangerous and congestion-creating Highett level crossing must go.
Highett residents often report that the boom gates at the intersection of Highett Road and Wickham Road are down for up to 30 minutes at a time in peak-hour traffic.
This is an extra 30 minutes a day spent sitting in traffic and not spent at home with our loved ones.
I’ve always been a strong advocate to have this level crossing removed.
Within my first six months as our community’s representative in State Parliament, I formally sought the crossing’s immediate removal. Unfortunately, the State Government rejected our community’s request.
Since then, I have written to the Minister on no less than seven occasions.
I have also formally requested funding for the crossing’s removal in each of my Sandringham District Budget Submissions (3 in total) since 2018, and directly raised the matter for the attention of the Minister on three occasions in Parliament.
On each occasion, the Minister has ignored our concerns and has failed to include this crossing in the State budget.
The State Labor Government has had seven years to fix this problem.
It’s time that they understand that our community needs action, and we need it now.
That’s why, I’m asking for your support by signing the petition included. The Government’s silence may be deafening, but the united voice of our community is impossible to ignore.
