Every day, thousands of pre-schoolers, primary school students, and their families are reliant upon this crossing to safely make their way to day-care, kinder, and school.
But they do this at great risk to their own wellbeing; vehicles turning onto Warrigal Road from Nepean Highway do so at speed, and often with very little regard for the young children, and their parents, crossing the road just a little distance away.
Last year, I wrote to the Minister for Road Safety to urgently request the installation of traffic lights and a pedestrian crossing.
The principals and lead educators of six surrounding schools and early learning centres – together with Kingston Council – each wrote in support of my advocacy.
I also directly raised the matter in Parliament for the attention of the Minister.
Sadly, on both occasions, the Minister rejected our community’s pleas for better road safety facilities at this intersection.
When it comes to the safety of our community, however, we won’t take no for an answer.
That’s why, I’m asking for your support by signing the petition included.
By speaking with one voice, we’ll make our message to the Minister heard loud and clear – the residents of Mentone demand traffic safety, and we demand it now.
