Dear Treasurer
Over the course of the next fortnight, you will finalise preparations for the delivery of Victoria’s 2020/2021 State Budget.
This budget will have defining implications for our State’s future.
Its focus must remain on healing and strengthening local Victorian communities which have been decimated by our State’s prolonged shutdown.
On behalf of the Sandringham District community, I propose the following local projects for funding consideration in this year’s budget:
Education
o $2 million for the construction of a school hall at Beaumaris North Primary School
o $1 million for the redevelopment of Black Rock Primary School’s sports oval
o Stage 2 funding for the re-development of Sandringham Secondary College
o $7.5 million Stage 1 funding for urgent maintenance and the development and implementation of a rebuild masterplan at Mentone Girls’ Secondary College
Community
o $1 million for the restoration and ongoing maintenance of Hampton Pier, Sandringham
o $50,000 for the beautification of Department of Roads traffic light boxes across the Sandringham District
o $200,000 for the construction of female change room facilities at Trevor Barker Oval
o The preservation of the vast majority of the former Gas and Fuel land in Nepean Highway Highett for community use
o $10 million dollars towards the staged development of a multi-hectare regional sporting precinct within the Kingston Green Wedge
Health
o $5 million for the upgrade of the Sandringham Hospital Outpatient Clinic and the immediate re-opening of 8 hospital beds (including the 7.5 EFT nursing staff needed to staff these beds) previously closed at Sandringham Hospital
Road Safety
o $500,000 for the installation of a pedestrian crossing facility at the intersection of Childers Street and Warrigal Road, Mentone
o $1.5 million for the installation of traffic lights and a pedestrian crossing at the intersection of George Street and Bay Road, Sandringham
o $1.5 million for the installation of traffic lights and a pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Tulip Street and Bluff Road, Black Rock
Transport
o The removal of the Warrigal Road level crossing in Mentone, replaced by a rail underpass
o The removal of the Highett Road and Wickham Road level crossings in Highett, replaced by a rail underpass
o More frequent bus services to and from Sandringham Train Station, including bus routes 822, 600, 922 and 923
o Approval for the Federal Government’s fully-funded construction of commuter car parking at Sandringham Station to go ahead
o An additional Protective Services Officer presence at Mentone Railway Station from 3pm until 6pm in addition to the regular PSO shift commencing at 6pm
Each of these requests have been made on the basis of strong and sustained concern displayed by multiple leaders and community members of the Sandringham District.
On behalf of the Sandringham District community, I therefore ask that you appropriately allocate the funding that is required to implement each of these important projects.
I thank you for your assistance with this matter.
Yours sincerely
Brad Rowswell M.P.
