01 May 2019
I was recently pleased to write to the Treasurer and convey for his consideration the 2019 Sandringham district budget submission.
It is my role and responsibility to ensure that residents, community groups, schools and sporting clubs in the Sandringham district are adequately supported in their work by the state government.
Among many worthy organisations I was therefore thrilled to include the Southern Basketball Association in the Sandringham Victorian state budget submission for 2019–20.
Based in Tulip Street, Cheltenham, the association has more than 10 000 registered players and 750 teams and coordinates more than 12 000 games a year.
The Southern Basketball Association are seeking an expansion of their stadium precinct—four new indoor courts—to ensure that the association can facilitate the increasing number of young participants and support them in leading active and healthy lifestyles.
The state contribution that is requested is $3 million, contributing to the $10 million project.
I recently wrote to the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events inviting him to meet with me and representatives of the association, and it is my hope that a bipartisan approach can be taken to resolving how the required funds might be accessed.
I await the minister’s response to my invitation, and I look forward to the inclusion of this capital funding in the 2019–20 Victorian state budget.
